Becoming A Sponsor

If you are an existing academy or Multi-Academy Trust and are thinking of becoming a sponsor, here we outline the work and process involved and the different funding levels available.

Schools in special measures and/or designated coasting schools can be compelled to become Academies by being issued with a directive academy order by the Department for Education. These schools do not apply to become an Academy.
Stronger schools and academies can support these weaker schools and academies by sponsoring them. Any Multi-Academy Trust wishing to sponsor other schools and academies must apply for this status separately and have it agreed by the Department for Education
